BREAKING: INEC presents Certificates of Return to Soludo, Ibezim as re-elected Anambra Governor, Deputy
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has presented certificates of return to Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, and his deputy, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim, officially confirming their re-election.
The presentation took place on Tuesday in Awka, where the Supervising INEC National Commissioner for the Anambra election, Kenneth Ikeagu, handed over the certificates two days after the pair were declared winners of the November 8, 2025, governorship poll.
Ikeagu said, “We are here to present the certificates of return to the Governor and Deputy Governor of Anambra State, following their successful outing during the state governorship election held on Saturday, November 8, 2025.”
“Section 72(1) of the Electoral Act 2022 mandates INEC to issue a certificate of return within 14 days to every candidate who has been duly returned by the returning officer under the Act.”
He added that the commission was fulfilling its statutory duty by confirming Soludo and Ibezim as the duly re-elected leaders of the state.
Soludo, who contested under the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), secured a landslide victory after winning in all 21 local government areas.
He polled 422,664 votes to defeat the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, who got 99,445 votes, while the Young Progressives Party’s (YPP) Paul Chukwuma came third with 37,753 votes.
According to INEC, a total of 2,788,864 voters were registered in the state, with 598,229 accredited. Of the total 595,298 votes cast, 11,244 were rejected.
Governor Soludo and his deputy were accompanied to the INEC state headquarters by their wives during the brief but symbolic ceremony.
