BREAKING: Iran fires missiles at Israel as US confirms military operations

Tensions in the Middle East have escalated sharply after Iran launched missiles toward Israel in what appeared to be retaliation for coordinated strikes carried out on its territory by United States and Israel.

US President Donald Trump confirmed American involvement in what he described as “major combat operations” targeting Iran, saying the action was aimed at neutralising imminent threats posed by the Iranian government.

In a video message shared on social media, Trump said the US military had begun large-scale operations to protect American interests, reiterating accusations against Iran over decades of hostility and threats against the United States and its allies.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described the joint offensive as Operation “The Roar of the Lion,” stating that the mission was intended to eliminate what he called an existential threat from Iran’s leadership and its nuclear ambitions.

“A short time ago, Israel and the United States embarked on an operation to remove the existential threat posed by the terrorist regime in Iran,” Netanyahu said in a televised address.

He commended Trump for what he called “historic leadership” and urged various ethnic groups within Iran — including Persians, Kurds, Azeris, Baluchis and Ahwazis — to push for political change toward what he described as a free and peaceful Iran.

Reports from Tehran indicated that explosions were heard in parts of the city, with thick plumes of smoke seen rising near key government areas following the initial strikes.

The Israeli military said it detected missile launches from Iran shortly after the offensive began, triggering air raid sirens across several locations.

According to the Israel Defense Forces, interception systems were activated to counter the incoming threats while retaliatory strikes continued.

The military warned that the country’s air defence system was not foolproof and urged residents to strictly comply with safety instructions issued by civil defence authorities as the situation continues to unfold.
