BREAKING: Police arrest alleged fake Presidential Council DG, Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi, hours after court order

Adeniyi Adeyemi, who allegedly paraded himself as the Director-General of the non-existent Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), has been arrested by the police shortly after a Federal High Court in Abuja issued a bench warrant for his arrest.

Adeyemi was apprehended on Tuesday moments after Justice Mohammed Umar ordered his arrest during proceedings at the Federal High Court in Abuja.

Sources familiar with the development said the suspect was taken into custody shortly after the court granted the prosecution’s application for a bench warrant.

He was reportedly dressed in a blue outfit at the time of his arrest.

Following his arrest, security operatives were seen interrogating him and repeatedly asking him to identify himself and confirm his name.

Adeyemi is accused of presenting himself as the Director-General of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), an organisation the Presidency has maintained does not exist as a recognised Federal Government agency.

Justice Umar issued the arrest warrant after the defendant failed to appear in court for his scheduled arraignment on an eight-count charge bordering on alleged forgery, fraud and impersonation.

During the proceedings, Adeyemi’s lawyer opposed the application for a warrant of arrest, arguing that his client stayed away from court because he feared for his life.

The defence counsel told the court that Adeyemi had written to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu explaining the alleged threats to his safety and insisting that he wanted to remain alive to defend himself against the charges.

However, Justice Umar rejected the explanation, holding that the defendant had no justification for repeatedly failing to honour the court’s summons.

Responding to the defence’s claim that Adeyemi feared for his life, the judge remarked that the court would “help him to be alive.”

The court subsequently ordered security agencies to arrest the defendant and produce him before the court.

Justice Umar adjourned the matter until September 30 for Adeyemi’s arraignment.

Adeyemi is facing an eight-count charge arising from the alleged establishment and operation of the purported Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council.

The Presidency has consistently maintained that the PFIPC is not a recognised government agency, an allegation that forms part of the criminal charges against the defendant.

With his arrest now confirmed, the case is expected to proceed with his arraignment on the next adjourned date.
