The Kebbi State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of 25 students from the Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area.

The attack occurred in the early hours of Monday when armed bandits stormed the school, killing one staff member and injuring another, as earlier reported by Very Nigerian.

In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafi’u Abubakar Kotarkoshi, the assailants, armed with sophisticated weapons, invaded the school around 4:00 a.m. and engaged the police officers on duty in a gun battle.

Despite the resistance, the bandits reportedly scaled the school’s perimeter fence and abducted the students from their hostel.

The police spokesperson confirmed that staff member Hassan Makuku was killed during the attack, while another, Ali Shehu, sustained gunshot injuries to his right hand.

Following the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Bello Muhammad Sani, deployed additional tactical units, supported by military personnel and vigilante groups, to the affected area.

The combined security team is currently combing suspected escape routes and surrounding forests in a coordinated search-and-rescue mission aimed at recovering the kidnapped students and arresting the gunmen.

The Commissioner urged residents to remain calm and vigilant, assuring the public of the Command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property across Kebbi State.
