BREAKING: Sowore emerges AAC presidential candidate for 2027 general election

Human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore, has been officially declared the presidential flag bearer of the African Action Congress (AAC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The announcement was made during the party’s presidential primaries held on Tuesday in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, where delegates and party leaders unanimously endorsed Sowore as the party’s candidate.

Following his emergence, Sowore was presented with the party’s flag in celebration of his victory, formally confirming his position as AAC’s standard bearer for the 2027 presidential race.

Speaking after accepting the nomination, Sowore said the AAC was founded to drive the vision of a “new Nigeria” built on accountability, justice and people-centered governance.

He expressed appreciation to delegates from across the country, describing their participation as a demonstration of sacrifice, resilience and commitment to the party’s ideology.

Sowore also reiterated the party’s focus on tackling corruption, insecurity, bad governance and economic hardship, which he said continue to affect millions of Nigerians.

Earlier, the AAC had commenced its internal primaries in Abuja, with strong turnout from party members and supporters. Sowore’s arrival at the venue was met with cheers, as delegates praised his long-standing activism and advocacy for good governance.

The development comes amid heightened political activities across parties ahead of the 2027 general elections, as political actors position themselves for the next electoral cycle.

Sowore had earlier confirmed his intention to contest again for the presidency, stating that Nigeria requires a decisive break from what he described as the entrenched political establishment responsible for years of national challenges.

With his emergence, the AAC becomes one of the parties to formally conclude its presidential primary ahead of the 2027 polls.
