BREAKING: Take a bow and go – APC screens, clears Gov Fubara
The All Progressives Congress (APC) screening exercise for Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, ended on a notably smooth and symbolic note on Sunday in Abuja, as party officials reportedly asked the governor to simply “take a bow and go” in what was described as a mark of respect.
According to Dr. Tamunosisi Gogo Jaja, an APC chieftain and former Commissioner for Education who accompanied the governor to the Plateau Governors’ Lodge screening venue, the panel did not subject Fubara to a prolonged interrogation.
He quoted the committee as telling the governor: “Your Excellency, as a mark of respect, kindly write your name, take a bow, and go. It was smooth.”
The development comes after reports that Fubara, who has been at the centre of a prolonged political standoff with his predecessor and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, had earlier obtained his APC expression of interest and nomination forms through political stakeholders and was subsequently cleared for the party’s governorship primaries scheduled for May 21, 2026.
The screening outcome, described by insiders as largely procedural, is already being interpreted within Rivers political circles as a significant signal of the APC’s handling of high-profile aspirants ahead of the 2027 elections, especially amid ongoing internal party realignments and state-level power struggles.
