(BREAKING) World Cup Play-Off: FIFA rejects Nigeria’s petition against DR Congo, NFF heads to CAS
Nigeria lost to DR Congo 4–3 on penalties in Rabat, Morocco, eliminating them from the tournament.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has announced an appeal against the FIFA Disciplinary Committee’s decision, which dismissed its petition regarding the eligibility of certain Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo) players during the 2026 FIFA World Cup play-off held in Rabat, Morocco, last November.
Nigeria was eliminated after losing 4-3 on penalties to DR Congo in the play-off. Following the match, the NFF raised concerns over irregularities in the issuance of passports that qualified some DR Congo players for the fixture.
After months of deliberation, FIFA rejected Nigeria’s petition. In response, the NFF confirmed it has formally launched an appeal, demonstrating its commitment to pursuing the matter through the proper channels.
“We have received the decision of the FIFA Disciplinary Committee on our petition, but we are not satisfied with the decision, which rejected our petition. I want to assure Nigerians that the NFF has immediately commenced the process of appealing the decision,” said NFF General Secretary, Dr Mohammed Sanusi.
Further updates on the appeal are expected in due course.
