Cameroon win WAFCON 2026, claim first-ever African Women’s football title
Cameroon have won the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) for the first time after defeating Malawi 3–0 in the 2026 final in Rabat, Morocco.
The Indomitable Lionesses delivered a dominant first-half performance, scoring all three goals before the break to effectively settle the contest.
Marie Ngah Manga opened the scoring before Naomi Eto doubled Cameroon’s advantage with an impressive swivelling finish.
Ngah Manga then completed her brace to give Cameroon a commanding 3–0 lead at half-time.
Cameroon remained solid after the restart, managing their advantage to secure a historic victory and finally claim the continental title after several near misses.
The triumph ends Cameroon’s long wait for the WAFCON trophy, having previously finished as runners-up three times.
Their most recent final appearance before 2026 was in 2016, when they lost 1–0 to Nigeria.
Veteran forward Gabrielle Onguene, 37, who featured in that 2016 final, came off the bench in second-half stoppage time in Rabat.
The appearance marked her eighth WAFCON participation, making the historic triumph particularly significant as Cameroon finally secured their first continental title.
For Malawi, the final was their first-ever appearance at the WAFCON, with their remarkable campaign ultimately ending in defeat.
Cameroon’s victory marks a landmark achievement for the country’s women’s national team and places the Indomitable Lionesses among Africa’s women’s football champions.
