Anxiety as live bullets pour out from moving vehicle at ABU Zaria gate
There was a brief moment of panic on Tuesday at the main gate of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, after several rounds of ammunition reportedly fell off a moving passenger bus along the Zaria–Katsina highway.
A video shared on X by counter-terrorism publication Zagazola Makama showed the incident unfolding right in front of the university’s main gate, causing confusion among pedestrians and motorists who rushed to understand what had happened.
According to the platform, an eyewitness identified as Musa said the ammunition fell from a commercial vehicle travelling towards Katsina. The situation attracted the attention of security personnel, who moved in to prevent any escalation and restore calm.
“We suddenly saw the bullets drop from the bus as it sped past the gate. Before people could understand what happened, the vehicle had already disappeared,” he said.
Musa added that some bystanders quickly picked up the ammunition and immediately alerted security operatives stationed in the area.
Another student who preferred to remain anonymous, described the incident as “strange and frightening,” noting that many feared the ammunition could be linked to supplies meant for bandits operating in parts of Kaduna and Katsina.
Makama said security personnel later arrived at the scene and recovered the ammunition.
