Delta govt declares three days of mourning for Former Governor Uduaghan
The Delta State Government has declared three days of mourning in honour of former Governor Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, who died on Monday at the age of 71.
The mourning period took effect on Monday as a mark of respect for the late former governor, who would have celebrated his 72nd birthday on October 22.
The directive was contained in a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr Kingsley Emu.
Uduaghan governed Delta State from May 2007 to May 2015, playing a significant role in the political and developmental history of the state.
Meanwhile, immediate past Governor of Delta State, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, has expressed deep sadness over the death of his predecessor, describing his demise as a painful loss.
In a condolence message Okowa said he received the news of Uduaghan’s death with profound sorrow, describing the deceased as both a predecessor and a brother.
“I received with deep sadness the news of the passing of my predecessor and brother, His Excellency, Dr Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan,” Okowa said.
He noted that Uduaghan’s years in office formed an important part of Delta State’s history, adding that his contributions to the state’s development would remain part of its collective heritage.
“As the Governor who served Delta State before me, Dr Uduaghan was an important part of our state’s journey. His years of service and contributions to Delta’s development remain part of our collective history,” he said.
Okowa extended his condolences to Uduaghan’s wife, Roli, his children and the entire Uduaghan family, praying to God to grant them the strength to bear the loss.
“I pray that God will comfort them and grant them the strength to bear this great loss,” he added.
The former governor also prayed for the peaceful repose of Uduaghan’s soul, expressing hope that the legacy of his service to Delta State would continue to be remembered.
