Drake loses $3.6m World Cup bet as Spain defeat Argentina in final

Grammy-winning Canadian rapper Drake has lost a $3.6 million bet after backing Argentina to defeat Spain in the 2026 FIFA World Cup final.

The artiste placed the multimillion-dollar wager through betting platform Stake, with the bet expected to return more than $5.1 million if Argentina had emerged victorious.

However, Spain claimed the World Cup title after scoring the decisive goal in extra time to defeat the defending champions, leaving Drake’s latest high-profile sports bet unsuccessful.

The loss has once again reignited discussions about the so-called “Drake curse”—a popular internet theory suggesting that teams or athletes publicly backed by the rapper often end up losing.

The latest setback adds to Drake’s growing list of unsuccessful sports wagers. Earlier this year, he also lost a major bet after backing former UFC two-division champion Conor McGregor, who was defeated by Max Holloway.

The “Drake curse” has become so widely discussed that fans created a website, TheDrakeCurse.com, dedicated to tracking the rapper’s sports predictions and betting record.

Born Aubrey Drake Graham, the Canadian superstar has become known for placing multimillion-dollar bets on major sporting events, many of which have attracted widespread attention because of their high stakes and frequent losses.

Spain’s victory over Argentina secured the country’s second FIFA World Cup title and ensured Drake’s latest multimillion-dollar gamble ended in disappointment.
