Nigeria’s confirmed Ebola patient is reportedly scheduled for medical evacuation from Abuja for further treatment, according to a report by ARISE News.

The 42-year-old woman was expected to be flown out of the country at about 6am on Monday, October 26, 2026, a source told the television station.

“The medivac plane is already at the airport waiting to evacuate her,” the source said.

The source added that the Federal Government was expected to announce the development after the aircraft had departed Nigerian airspace.

However, as of the time of the report, the proposed evacuation had not been independently confirmed through an official statement from the Federal Government or the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC).

The reported plan comes amid intensified surveillance, contact tracing and other public health measures aimed at preventing further transmission of the Ebola virus.

Two Suspected Cases Test Negative

Meanwhile, the NCDC reportedly confirmed that two suspected Ebola cases recorded in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and Rivers State had tested negative.

The agency also reported that 53 primary contacts of the confirmed patient had been identified and were undergoing monitoring as part of efforts to contain the outbreak.

Health officials are expected to continue monitoring identified contacts for 21 days after their last possible exposure, in line with established public health protocols.

Government Considers Financial Support for Contacts

The development follows reports that the Federal Government was considering weekly financial support of ₦100,000 for individuals placed in quarantine following complaints about the cost of feeding, accommodation and maintaining their families during monitoring.

According to earlier statements attributed to NCDC Director-General, Dr Jide Idris, the proposed intervention was intended to ease the financial burden on affected individuals and encourage their cooperation with public health authorities.

The arrangement was also described as an interim measure, with state governments expected to assume responsibility for supporting contacts within their respective jurisdictions as the response progresses.

Authorities have continued to urge Nigerians to cooperate with contact-tracing teams, provide accurate information and rely on verified updates from official health agencies.
