Ember Months Alert: Police advise against sale, use of firecrackers
As the festive season draws near, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command, led by Commissioner of Police CP Miller Dantawaye, has cautioned residents against the sale, purchase, or use of firecrackers, knockout explosives, and other unauthorized pyrotechnics.
The Command expressed concern over the increasing circulation of these items across the Territory. Firecrackers are known to pose serious safety risks, including injuries, fire outbreaks, and widespread panic.
They can also be exploited by criminals to cover unlawful activities. Moreover, their uncontrolled use disrupts public peace and puts vulnerable groups, such as children, the elderly, and people with health conditions, at risk.
Residents are strongly urged to adhere to this advisory.
FCT Police operatives have been directed to enforce the directive, and violators will be arrested and prosecuted.
Members of the public are encouraged to remain vigilant and report anyone involved in the sale or use of firecrackers.
Reports can be made at the nearest police station or via the FCT Police Command emergency lines: 08032003913 and 08068587311.
