Ex-Chief of Staff to APC chairman Dawaki defects to NDC in Kano
A former Chief of Staff to the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mustapha Bala Dawaki, has defected to the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC).
Dawaki, a former member of the House of Representatives who represented the Dawakin Kudu/Warawa constituency in Kano State, left the ruling party barely a week after losing his return ticket through consensus arrangement within the APC.
His defection was confirmed on Monday by Saifullahi Hassan, media aide to a prominent NDC leader and Kwankwasiyya figure, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
According to Hassan, the defection ceremony took place at the Miller Road residence of Kwankwaso in Kano, where Dawaki was formally received into the opposition party.
“The leader (Kwankwaso) has today accepted the former Chief of Staff to the APC national Chairman, Mustapha Bala Dawaki (Mai Gidan Ruwa) into the NDC Kwankwasiyya,” Hassan wrote on his verified Facebook page.
The development comes at a time when the NDC is concluding arrangements to allocate party tickets across states through consensus.
However, it remains unclear whether Dawaki will be granted an automatic ticket to contest under the party’s platform.
