Hon Chris Etta, a former member of the House of Representatives for Ikom/Boki Federal Constituency, has been elected as the new chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Cross River State.

His emergence followed the party’s state congress, which attracted widespread participation from delegates and party stakeholders.

The results were announced on Tuesday at the UJ Esuene Stadium in Calabar by Dr Safiya Musa, Secretary of the State Congress Committee.

Alongside Etta, Hon Ogana Lukpata was elected Deputy Chairman, while Pastor Patrick Asikpo Okon retained his position as State Secretary, with other officials also successfully elected into various roles.

Declaring him the winner alongside other executives, the state APC Congress Chairman, Mr Samuel Yarnap, said the newly elected state executives were chosen by consensus.

He described the process as peaceful and transparent, noting that it reflected the collective will of party members across the state.

The delegates completed the process after about 10 hours of stakeholders meeting that took the congress into the night through affirmation, with the “ayes” overwhelmingly carrying the vote, signalling unanimous endorsement of the newly elected executives.

In his remark, the state governor, Senator Bassey Otu congratulated the state congress committee and the state executive of the party for a job welldone in the congress he described as very peaceful.

According to him: “We will work hard towards the victory of the party. We will ensure we delivered over 1.5 million votes to Tinubu as promised by our governor.
