EXCLUSIVE: Gov Makinde set to join Bala Mohammed in APM as loyalists begin mass exodus from PDP
Fresh indications have emerged that Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, may be preparing to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party to the Allied Peoples Movement, following growing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The development comes barely a week after Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, reportedly aligned with the APM, fueling speculations of an emerging opposition coalition outside the traditional major parties.
Makinde on Wednesday hosted top leaders and stakeholders of the APM in a closed-door meeting at his residence in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Sources familiar with the meeting told Very Nigerian that discussions were centred on plans for Makinde’s possible defection and the integration of his political structure into the APM ahead of 2027.
Signs of the planned move have already begun to surface, with some loyalists of the governor reportedly resigning from the PDP.
One of Makinde’s loyalists, Hon. Anthony Adebayo Adepoju, representing Ibarapa Central and North in the Oyo State House of Assembly, has reportedly dumped the PDP.
More resignations are expected as political associates of the governor are said to be preparing to move into the APM structure.
The latest development further strengthens speculations that Makinde may formally join forces with Bala Mohammed in building a new political platform ahead of the next election cycle.
