EXCLUSIVE: Gov. Otti, Fintiri may defect to ruling party amid APC ward congress postponement
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced the suspension of its State, Local Government, and Ward Congresses in Abia and Adamawa States, following circulating rumours of possible defections by influential governors in the two states.
The suspension comes amid high-profile visits and engagements aimed at strengthening party unity ahead of the 2027 elections.
In Abia, Governor Hope Uzodinma, Chairman of the Progressives Governors Forum, visited Governor Okezie Ikpeazu (LP) on New Year’s Day with his wife. The visit was later followed by a delegation led by the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila.
Former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo also visited Abia yesterday in what coincided with celebrations marking Governor Ikpeazu’s 61st birthday.
Despite the high-profile attention, Governor Ikpeazu reportedly remains firm in his commitment to the Labour Party, resisting overtures from APC leaders.
In Adamawa State, President Bola Tinubu visited the state yesterday to commission multiple projects, including the new NYSC orientation camp in Malkohi, Yola, named the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Orientation Camp.
Observers see the visit as part of a broader effort to consolidate support for the ruling party ahead of the next general elections.
The suspension of the congresses in both states underscores the APC’s cautious approach to internal party activities, reflecting ongoing political maneuvering as party leadership seeks to maintain cohesion amid potential high-stakes defections.
