FG announces recruitment for 18 positions under ₦[Package] VCN Agricultural Programme (How to apply)
The Federal Government has opened applications for 18 positions under the Value Chain for Northern Nigeria (VCN) Programme, a major agricultural development initiative being implemented in partnership with the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and the French Development Agency (AFD).
The programme is designed to increase the incomes, food security and resilience of smallholder farmers and other agricultural value-chain actors across nine northern states.
The participating states are Sokoto, Kebbi, Jigawa, Zamfara, Borno, Katsina, Yobe, Bauchi and Kano.
The available positions are based at the VCN National Programme Coordination Office (NPCO) in Abuja and successful candidates will be required to travel regularly to the participating states.

Educational Requirements
Most of the specialist and senior positions require a Master’s degree or higher in a relevant discipline.
Depending on the position, applicants may require qualifications in areas including:
- Agriculture and Agricultural Economics
- Agronomy and Crop Production
- Civil Engineering
- Nutrition and Dietetics
- Computer Science, ICT and Data Science
- Gender and Development Studies
- Environmental Management and Climate Science
- Accounting and Finance
- Procurement and Supply Chain Management

- Business Administration and Human Resources
The Procurement Assistant position requires at least a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
Applicants for some positions are also expected to belong to relevant professional bodies or possess recognised professional certifications.
Experience Required
The VCN Programme is seeking experienced professionals with relevant backgrounds in areas such as:
- Project management
- Agriculture
- Financial management
- Procurement
- Monitoring and evaluation
- ICT
- Environmental safeguards
- Gender and social inclusion
- Communications
- Rural development
For example, candidates applying for the Gender & Social Inclusion Specialist position are required to have at least 10 years of relevant professional experience, including a minimum of seven years in a similar role involving internationally funded agricultural development projects.
Contract and Benefits
Successful candidates will be engaged on a two-year staff contract, subject to annual performance evaluation.
The contract may be renewed based on satisfactory performance.
The programme stated that remuneration will be competitive and based on the applicable FGN/IFAD/AFD salary scales for nationally recruited project staff.
The positions will also involve regular travel to the nine participating states, as well as occasional travel for IFAD/AFD missions and training.
Important Requirements
The programme has stipulated that the National Programme Coordinator must not be engaged in any other ongoing assignment in Nigeria or elsewhere when the employment contract takes effect.
Applicants are also required to provide accurate information and are warned against falsifying personal details.
The programme further stated that the Project Coordinator must not have a current business relationship with potential Farmers’ Based Organisations (FBOs) or other project partners.

Interested and qualified applicants are required to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) in 10 copies, comprising one original and nine photocopies.
Each application should contain:
- A detailed Curriculum Vitae (CV)
- An application letter
- A cover letter specifically tailored to the position being applied for

“EXPRESSION OF INTEREST (EOI) FOR THE RECRUITMENT OF NATIONAL PROJECT MANAGEMENT UNIT UNDER THE FGN/IFAD/AFD-VCN PROJECT.”
