Fire Service, Kugbo Market agree on joint safety training, inspections
In a bid to strengthen fire prevention and improve emergency response, the Federal Fire Service (FFS), FCT Command, has entered into a partnership with the Kugbo Timber and Furniture Market to enhance safety measures and tackle recurring fire incidents.
According to a statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSF B.A. Anyam, the partnership was announced following a meeting between the Controller of Fire, CF M.S. Anas, and executives of various associations from the Kugbo Timber Market held at the FFS Command Headquarters in Abuja on Monday.
Mr. Anas commended the market leadership for their commitment to safety and stressed the need for proactive fire prevention steps in timber markets, which are highly vulnerable due to their combustible materials.
He proposed the establishment of a fire station within or near the market to enable a quick response in emergencies, alongside the installation of fire hydrants and extinguishers at key points.
The Controller also emphasised the importance of training traders and workers on the proper use of firefighting equipment and adherence to safety protocols.
In response, the market representatives expressed appreciation to the Fire Service for its proactive approach and pledged their cooperation to implement the safety recommendations.
Both parties agreed to conduct a joint inspection of the market and organise a comprehensive fire safety and disaster management training session for all traders.
Mr. Anas noted that the initiative aligns with the Command’s broader campaign to instil a strong culture of safety and preparedness across major markets in the Federal Capital Territory.
