Former presidential media aide, Bashir Ahmad, has announced plans for a prayer and remembrance gathering to mark the first anniversary of the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

Ahmad disclosed this in a statement shared on his official page on Tuesday, stating that the event would take place on Monday, July 13, to honour Buhari’s life, legacy and service to Nigeria.

“On Monday, July 13th, we will gather in solemn remembrance to honour the life, legacy and enduring service of our late boss, former President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, one year after his passing,” he wrote.

He described the late former president as a leader who devoted his life to serving Nigeria with commitment, integrity, discipline and patriotism.

According to Ahmad, Buhari’s contributions to national development and Nigeria’s political history would remain an enduring part of the country’s story.

He said family members, friends, political associates and Nigerians from different walks of life would gather for prayers and reflection in memory of the former president.

Ahmad added that special prayers would be offered for Allah to forgive Buhari’s shortcomings, grant him Al-Jannah Firdaus, and continue to comfort his family, loved ones and the nation.

“May Allah grant him eternal rest. Ameen,” he concluded.

Former President Muhammadu Buhari died on July 13, 2025, at the age of 82 in a London clinic after a prolonged illness.

His remains were flown back to Nigeria and laid to rest in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State.

Buhari served as Nigeria’s democratically elected president from May 29, 2015, to May 29, 2023, becoming the first opposition candidate in the country’s history to defeat an incumbent president when he won the 2015 presidential election. He was re-elected in 2019 and completed his second term in 2023.

The planned remembrance is expected to bring together family members, former aides, political associates and supporters to reflect on his leadership, legacy and contributions to Nigeria.
