Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has ordered the immediate demolition of houses obstructing waterways in Maitama and other flood-prone areas of Abuja.
Wike gave the directive on Tuesday after inspecting areas affected by flooding in Maitama.
The minister said the demolition would start immediately and continue until Saturday, regardless of ongoing political activities or the status of the owners of the affected properties.

He maintained that properties blocking waterways and contributing to flooding would not be spared, stressing the need to protect residents and prevent further damage from flooding.
