Four Killed as bus rams into truck in Ogun
At least four people lost their lives in a road accident on Monday night at the Ijebu-Imushin section of the Ijebu Ode-Ore expressway.
The crash occurred around 11:16 pm and involved a white Toyota Hiace bus (BDJ482XC) and a blue MAN Diesel truck (RSH969XC) owned by Julius Berger.
According to reports gathered by Very Nigerian, the truck was being towed when the towing chain broke. The speeding Hiace bus then collided with the truck, leading to the fatal accident.
Following the collision, the driver of the towing vehicle fled the scene, leaving the truck behind.
The Public Relations Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps,Ogun Sector Command, Odunsi Afolabi, confirmed the incident to Very Nigerian on Tuesday.
Afolabi ascribed the cause of the crash to excessive speed by the bus driver, adding that all individuals in the bus sustained fatal injuries and were confirmed dead at the scene.
He said, “Regrettably, all four individuals involved in the crash comprising two male adults and two female adults sustained fatal injuries and were confirmed dead at the scene.
“Preliminary investigations indicate that the crash was caused by Speed Violations (SPV).
“FRSC rescue team arrived at the scene within eight minutes of being alerted.”
He stated that the corpses were evacuated and deposited at the State Hospital Mortuary, Ijebu Ode, while the Nigerian Police Force (NPF), Imushin Division, has taken custody of the vehicles and the case for further investigation.
Reacting to the incident, the Sector Commander, Corps Commander Akinwunmi Fasakin, urged all motorists to adhere strictly to speed limits, especially during night travel, and to ensure towing equipment meets safety standards to prevent such avoidable tragedies.
