Gianni Infantino to hold emergency FIFA meeting amid resignation calls
FIFA President Gianni Infantino is set to hold an emergency meeting with some of his senior officials in Morocco, Very Nigerian reports.
The meeting comes as Infantino intensifies efforts to secure the backing of FIFA Member Associations, with Asia reportedly emerging as a crucial battleground in the campaign for support.
Meanwhile, Jordan Football Association President, Prince Ali Al Hussein, has accused FIFA of using questionable tactics to influence voting. He alleged that some of the methods employed to win support from member associations “amount to blackmail.”
The allegations add fresh controversy to FIFA’s internal political landscape as key stakeholders prepare for important decisions within the global football governing body.
FIFA General Secretary, Mattias Grafström and Arsene Wenger have both spoken out today against Infantino’s FIFA Forward Enterprise plans.
Infantino faces a battle to get even some of his allies on side.
He is believed to be trying to establish whether he retains over 106 votes before determining next steps.
Several federations have asked for time to decide, while the Swiss FA say they want a “personal exchange” before taking a position.
