Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, on Thursday attended the inaugural State House Press Corps Presidential Dinner held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

During the event, Governor Lawal decorated President Bola Tinubu as the Grand Patron of the State House Press Corps in recognition of his support for the media and democratic governance.

The dinner brought together journalists covering the Presidency and senior government officials to strengthen engagement between the media and public office holders.

It also served as an opportunity to honour excellence in presidential reporting while providing an informal platform for interaction between journalists and key government functionaries.

Addressing participants, President Tinubu called on media professionals to remain committed to the principles of professionalism, accuracy and responsible journalism.

He described the press as a vital partner in nation-building, stressing that credible and balanced reporting plays a significant role in deepening democracy, promoting accountability and fostering national development.

The President also encouraged journalists to continue discharging their responsibilities with integrity and fairness, noting that constructive collaboration between the government and the media is essential for the country’s progress.

He also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to press freedom and freedom of expression as guaranteed by the Constitution.

The State House Press Corps comprises journalists accredited to cover the President and activities at the Presidential Villa.

The maiden edition of the dinner was attended by the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu; the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume; and the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila.

Also present were the Ministers of Finance, Education, Health, Agriculture and Information, as well as the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs Didi Esther Walson-Jack, alongside other senior government officials.
