Gowon endorses Tinubu’s leadership, says President doing his best
Former Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon (retd.), has endorsed the performance of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, stating that the President is doing his best across all sectors of governance.
Gowon made the remark on Saturday after visiting President Tinubu at the State House, Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja.
According to the former military leader, there is no specific area in which the President needs improvement, noting that the administration is making efforts in political, economic, social and security matters.
“As far as it goes, isn’t he doing the best he can all round? So there is no particular place. Every other area, political, economic, social, etc, and of course the major problem that we have today, the security in the area, he’s doing everything to deal with those for the good of Nigeria,” Gowon said.
When asked which areas he would like the President to improve on, Gowon replied that Tinubu must continue to focus on protecting the interests of Nigeria in all sectors.
He explained that his visit to the Presidential Villa was to thank the President and acknowledge what he described as the progress Nigeria is making under the current administration.
“I came to see him and to thank him for all the good work that he’s doing for the country. We had to look at all the good work that the President is doing and the progress that Nigeria is making economically and otherwise,” he said.
Speaking on the country’s security challenges, Gowon expressed confidence in the government’s efforts to address the situation.
“The major problem that we have today is security, and he is doing everything to deal with it for the good of Nigeria and all Nigerians,” he added.
The elder statesman also maintained that the present administration is best positioned to rally the country through its current challenges.
“The problem that is happening today, it is only the government today, Mr. President, that can rally and deal with it, and he is dealing with it the best he can without creating any problem for Nigeria and for the country,” Gowon said.
He assured Nigerians that the government is making efforts to ensure lasting peace and stability across the country.
Gowon ruled Nigeria from 1966 to 1975 and remains one of the country’s most respected elder statesmen, often contributing to national discourse and participating in meetings of the National Council of State.
