The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council, Comrade Grace Ike, has been honoured with the Excellence in Media Leadership and Advocacy Award by the School of Communications and Media Studies, Learn To Live Business School UK (LLBSUK).

The recognition was one of the major highlights of the institution’s 2025 Post-Graduate Awards ceremony, which celebrated graduates from Cohorts 1 and 2.

Held in an atmosphere of pride and academic accomplishment, the event drew media scholars, practitioners, communication experts, and families of the graduating students.

Among the new graduates were Mrs. Funmilayo Evelyn Akintola, Gloria Ikiba, Arith, Yecenu Joyce Sasetu and others who successfully completed the demanding programme.

Presenting the award, former Director-General of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) and Chairman of AFIA Television, Chief Emeka Mba, described Comrade Ike as a trailblazer in media leadership whose work continues to shape national conversations.

He noted that her long-standing commitment to advocacy, mentorship, and the defence of press freedom has earned her significant respect across Nigeria’s media landscape.

“This award recognises Comrade Grace Ike as an outstanding individual who has demonstrated exemplary leadership in advancing ethical journalism, free expression, and responsible media practice,” he said.

Responding, Comrade Ike expressed deep appreciation for the honour, describing it as both inspiring and humbling.

She said the recognition reinforces her commitment to strengthening journalism and contributing to national development through strategic communication.

“I am delighted by this recognition from the School of Communications and Media Studies,” she said.

“Strategic communication remains central to national growth. We must continue to refine how we tell our stories and engage the public.”

She reaffirmed her dedication to responsible journalism, pledging to continue championing narratives that restore and strengthen public trust in the media.

“I will do my best to inspire my people to tell stories that shape public confidence,” she added, stressing that the media must remain a credible bridge between government, institutions and the citizenry.

For Comrade Ike, the honour marks another milestone in a career rooted in advocacy, resilience, and leadership in Nigeria’s dynamic media sector.

For the graduating students, the ceremony signalled the beginning of a new phase, armed with fresh skills in communication strategy, media ethics, and development reporting.

LLBSUK expressed optimism that the graduates will contribute to a stronger and more professional media industry.

The event concluded with certificate and award presentations, group photographs, and networking among academics and practitioners.
