‘I want to leave Aso Rock in 2031 to enjoy a better Nigeria’ – Remi Tinubu
She stated that Nigeria is making progress, adding that those who fail to recognise the changes could be given what she called “Bola Tinubu eyeglasses”.
Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has expressed hope that she will leave the Presidential Villa in 2031 to a country she can enjoy as she enters her 70s.
She made the remark on Friday during the inauguration of the Abuja headquarters of the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement, a grassroots mobilisation group campaigning for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.
The First Lady’s statement comes as political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general election, with support groups stepping up efforts to mobilise backing for the president’s second-term bid.
“I want to leave Aso Rock, in 2031, by the grace of God, and enter a Nigeria that me as a 70-something-year-old woman will enjoy,” she said.
The first lady cited “improvements at Nigerian airports” as evidence of progress, saying she wants to be able to travel quickly.
“I want to get to the airport. I want to travel, you know, so quickly. And you can see our airports too are changing,” she said.
She stated that Nigeria is making progress, adding that those who fail to recognise the changes could be given what she called “Bola Tinubu eyeglasses”.
“So things are happening in Nigeria, except, you know, those who don’t see; maybe we’ll give them some, you know, Bola Tinubu eyeglasses. We are doing that, JigiBola,” she said.
Remi subsequently commissioned the movement’s Abuja headquarters and expressed support for her husband’s re-election bid.
“So to the glory of God, and for the victory of Mr President come 2027, I hereby formally commission the PBAT door-to-door movement campaign headquarters Abuja,” she said.
She concluded her remarks by expressing support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the convener of the movement, Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo.
