Iru Ekun Security Network: Igboho seeks FG’s approval for security outfit to fight insecurity in South West

Yoruba Nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo, has called on the Federal Government and South-West governors to urgently approve the operation of his proposed security outfit, the Iru Ekun Security Network, amid rising insecurity and kidnapping cases in the region.

Igboho made the appeal on Tuesday while reacting to the recent abduction of pupils, students and teachers during coordinated attacks on schools in Oyo State.

In a statement, he said he had completed all necessary processes required for the launch of the security network but was still awaiting official approval from relevant authorities, including security agencies.

“I’m only awaiting the approval of the government to tackle growing insecurity ravaging the South-West headlong,” he said.

He explained that the proposed security outfit was designed to flush out kidnappers, bandits and criminal elements allegedly operating in forests across the South-West and parts of Kwara State.

Igboho stressed that he would not proceed without formal clearance from the Federal Government, South-West governors, the Police, Department of State Services and the Nigerian Army.

Reacting to the Oyo school attacks, he described the incident as tragic and unacceptable, expressing sympathy for affected families and communities.

“My heart is with the parents of the abducted pupils and families of the slain teachers and security personnel,” he said.

He further warned that continued delays in addressing insecurity could worsen the situation, adding that his group was ready to act if given approval.

“We are battle-ready with our men to storm these forests and flush out marauders who have made lives miserable for our people,” he stated.

Meanwhile, the Oyo State Police Command confirmed that 32 pupils, students and teachers were abducted in the attacks, sparking widespread panic across affected communities.

Police spokesperson, Oluyinka Ayanlade, said seven secondary school students, 18 primary school pupils and seven teachers were still missing.

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, later disclosed that surveillance aircraft acquired by the state government had arrived in Nigeria and were being prepared for deployment to strengthen security operations.

The developments come amid renewed calls for stronger security measures in the South-West as cases of kidnapping and school attacks continue to raise concern.
