Jigawa governor finds top officials absent as surprise inspection uncovers locked offices at state secretariat

Jigawa State Governor, Umar Namadi, carried out an unscheduled inspection of the state secretariat in Dutse on Monday, where he discovered that several offices occupied by top government officials were still locked as of 11:00 a.m., with many senior civil servants absent from duty.

A video of the inspection, which has since gone viral, showed the governor moving through various ministries, finding numerous offices deserted, with only a few messengers and security personnel present.

Confirming the development in a statement issued on Tuesday, the governor’s Special Assistant, Garba Muhammad, said the visit formed part of Governor Namadi’s statewide oversight tour aimed at strengthening accountability and improving public service delivery.

According to the statement, the governor’s unannounced visit was intended to monitor staff attendance, punctuality and workplace productivity across government ministries and agencies.

“The exercise reflects his administration’s continued commitment to promoting discipline, accountability and an efficient public service,” the statement said.

After the inspection, Governor Namadi travelled to Ringim Local Government Area, where he sympathised with families affected by the recent boat accident in Malamawar ‘Yan Dutse community.

He participated in the funeral prayers for victims whose bodies had been recovered and prayed for those still missing, before paying a condolence visit to the Emir of Ringim.

The governor later inspected ongoing road projects in Sankara and Kanya Babba, before proceeding to Kazaure to assess the progress of key infrastructure projects, including hospitals, the Jigawa State Research Institute, and the Jigawa State Polytechnic for Communication and Information Technology.

The state government said the inspection tour underscores Governor Namadi’s hands-on approach to governance and his determination to ensure effective service delivery, strict accountability and the timely execution of development projects across Jigawa State.
