JUST IN: Court dismisses NDLEA charges against DCP Abba Kyari
A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has discharged and acquitted Abba Kyari, a suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police, of a 23-count charge bordering on alleged non-declaration of assets filed against him by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.
Delivering judgment on Thursday, Justice James Omotosho ruled that the prosecution failed to prove the allegations against Kyari and the other defendants.
The court held that the evidence presented by the NDLEA was not sufficient to establish the charges beyond reasonable doubt.
Kyari was charged alongside his two brothers, who were accused of swearing false affidavits to conceal the origin of some properties allegedly linked to the police officer.
Delivering the verdict, Omotosho said the NDLEA did not present sufficient evidence to prove that the properties cited in the charge belonged to Kyari.
