Kaduna PDP guber candidate Isa Ashiru dumps party, joins ADC
The 2023 governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Kaduna State, Isa Ashiru, has formally resigned from the party, citing persistent internal crises and divisions.
Ashiru conveyed his decision in a letter dated March 27 and addressed to the PDP ward chairman in Kudan Local Government Area, stating that his exit followed “careful reflection on the state of affairs within the party.”
He noted that ongoing leadership disputes, conflicts, and rancour within the party made it increasingly difficult for him to remain an active member, describing his resignation as a personal decision taken in good faith.
Shortly after announcing his resignation, Ashiru confirmed his defection to the African Democratic Congress by sharing a poster bearing the party’s logo on his social media page.
Ashiru, who holds the traditional title of Sarkin Bai Zazzau, previously represented the Makarfi/Kudan constituency in the House of Representatives and also served in the Kaduna State House of Assembly.
He contested the Kaduna governorship election in 2023 under the PDP but lost to incumbent Governor Uba Sani of the All Progressives Congress, who polled 730,002 votes against Ashiru’s 719,196.
