Former Kano Deputy Governor Nasiru Gawuna resigns from APC amid political realignments

Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, the 2023 governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State and former deputy governor, has formally resigned his membership from the party.

In a letter dated March 29, 2026, addressed to the APC chairman in Gawuna Ward, Nassarawa Local Government Area, Gawuna described his resignation as “voluntary and personal.”

“I hereby formally resign my membership from the All Progressives Congress (APC), effective March 29, 2026,” the letter read in part.

While expressing gratitude to the APC for the opportunities he enjoyed during his membership, Gawuna did not reveal his next political move.

His resignation comes amid a period of significant political realignment in Kano State, as key political figures continue to shift allegiances ahead of upcoming elections. Sources close to Gawuna indicated that he is expected to meet with former Kano State governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso at his residence on Miller Road, Kano, signaling possible future collaborations.

The development underscores the ongoing political manoeuvres in Kano State, following a series of high-profile defections and strategic alignments among major actors in the state’s political landscape.
