Medvedev humiliated in Monte Carlo, falls 6-0, 6-0 to Berrettini
Daniil Medvedev endured a shocking 6-0, 6-0 defeat against Matteo Berrettini in the second round of the Monte Carlo Masters on Wednesday.
The seventh seed struggled from the start, missing two break points in the opening game before completely falling apart.
Medvedev committed 30 unforced errors and served five double faults, failing to win more than two points in any of the final 11 games.
Frustration boiled over in the second set as he smashed his racquet into the court four times, leaving fans stunned at the one-sided result.
Berrettini wrapped up the double-bagel victory, the first such defeat of former world number one Medvedev’s career, in just 49 minutes.
The former Wimbledon runner-up, now ranked 90th, will face either Joao Fonseca or Arthur Rinderknech in the last 16.
