Maguire extends Man United stay with new deal

Harry Maguire has signed a new contract that will keep him at Manchester United beyond the end of the current season, extending his time at the club to at least eight years since joining in 2019.

The 33-year-old defender, whose previous deal was due to expire soon, has now secured his future at Old Trafford with the fresh agreement.

Maguire arrived from Leicester City in a £80 million transfer, which was a world-record fee for a defender at the time.

Since then, he has made 266 appearances for the club, winning the League Cup in the 2022/23 season and adding the FA Cup the following year.

“Representing Manchester United is the ultimate honour,” Maguire said in a statement.

“It is a responsibility that makes me and my family proud every single day.

“I am delighted to extend my journey at this incredible club and continue to play in front of our special supporters to create more amazing moments together.”

“You can feel the ambition and potential of this exciting squad. The determination throughout the whole club to fight for major trophies is clear, and I am confident that our best moments together remain ahead of us,” he added.

Manchester United’s director of football, Jason Wilcox, praised Maguire’s influence, describing him as “the ultimate professional” who brings leadership and resilience to a young, ambitious squad.

Maguire has been a consistent presence since the club’s managerial reshuffle, with Michael Carrick taking caretaker charge following a turbulent period that saw Rúben Amorim depart earlier this year.

United have since climbed to third in the Premier League, boosting hopes of a return to the UEFA Champions League.
