A mortuary attendant identified as Amaobi has been arrested by the Benue State Police Command following a disturbing incident in Agwabi, Buruku Local Government Area of the state.

According to reports, the suspect, who works at a local mortuary, was allegedly caught on Friday morning using the leg of a deceased person as a walking stick.

The incident reportedly escalated when he was also said to have gone to a nearby shop with the human remains in his possession to purchase items, an act that triggered outrage among residents.

Angry youths in the community were said to have intercepted him before handing him over to security operatives, who later took him into custody for questioning.

During interrogation, Amaobi allegedly admitted to the act but claimed it was a form of protest meant to draw attention to his situation. He said he was seeking intervention to help evacuate over 18 bodies reportedly kept at the facility following killings linked to past security operations.

As of the time of filing this report, the Benue State Police Command had yet to issue an official statement, while investigations into the incident are ongoing.
