The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced the closure of the sale of Expression of Interest forms for aspirants seeking to contest the office of President on its platform ahead of the 2027 general elections.

However, the party extended the deadline for the collection of Expression of Interest forms for other elective positions, including governorship, Senate, House of Representatives, and State Houses of Assembly, shifting the date from May 17 to May 24, 2026.

This was contained in a statement issued in Abuja on Monday by the party’s National Secretary, Mr Ikenna Enekweizu.

According to the statement, screening of aspirants who have purchased and completed their Expression of Interest forms will commence on Tuesday and run until May 26, 2026.

The party further disclosed that the collection and submission of Nomination Forms for all cleared aspirants will begin on Wednesday and close on May 26, stressing that no further extension will be granted.

Aspirants have been directed to appear for screening and pre-qualification interviews at designated centres nationwide, accompanied by relevant documents including academic certificates, birth certificates or age declarations, passport photographs, voter identification cards, NDC membership cards and curriculum vitae. Each document is expected to be submitted in six copies.

The NDC stated that the screening process will be guided by considerations such as the wishes of the electorate, local political dynamics, competence, capacity and character of aspirants.

The party also noted that its affirmative action policy for women, youths and persons living with disabilities will be factored into the exercise.

It urged aspirants to comply strictly with all guidelines and timelines, adding that only those cleared during screening will be eligible to purchase nomination forms.

The party also encouraged consensus-building among aspirants ahead of the next phase of its primaries.
