NDC unveils 20-member screening committee ahead govs, NASS primaries
The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has constituted a 20-member National Selection Committee to oversee the screening and selection of aspirants ahead of its forthcoming governorship and National Assembly primaries.
The party said the committee would be formally inaugurated on Monday, May 25, 2026, and is expected to hold its inaugural meeting immediately after inauguration.
According to a statement signed on Friday by the party’s National Secretary, Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu, the move is aimed at strengthening transparency, internal democracy, and credibility in the candidate selection process.
The statement noted that the decision was approved by the party’s National Leader following recommendations from the NWC as preparations intensify for the primaries.
The committee will be chaired by the National Chairman of the party, Moses Zuwoghe, while Enekweizu will serve as secretary.
Other members include political figures such as Buba Galadima, Yunusa Tanko, Udenta Udenta, and Aminu Abdulsalam, among others.
The committee is mandated to review reports submitted by the National Screening Committee and make final decisions on the eligibility of all aspirants seeking to contest under the party’s platform.
“The committee is mandated to review, scrutinize, and consider the reports and recommendations of the National Screening Committee, and to take appropriate decisions on the screening outcomes of all aspirants,” the statement read.
The NDC further explained that only aspirants cleared by both the screening and selection committees will be eligible to purchase nomination forms.
It added that where consensus is not reached, the party will proceed with direct primaries scheduled for May 28 to 30, 2026.
The party assured members and stakeholders of a transparent and inclusive process, saying the structure is designed to promote unity and produce widely acceptable candidates ahead of the general elections.
