NFF sets up committee to probe Super Falcons’ World Cup failure

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has established a fact-finding committee to investigate the country’s recent poor performances in international football, with the Super Falcons’ failure to qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup among the major issues to be examined.

The move comes after Nigeria’s disappointing outing at the ongoing Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

The Super Falcons were knocked out in the quarter-finals before losing 2-1 to South Africa in the playoff for a spot in the Inter-Confederation Playoffs.

The defeat means Nigeria will miss the 2027 Women’s World Cup in Brazil, bringing an end to the Super Falcons’ record of appearing at every edition of the tournament since its inaugural staging in 1991.

The NFF said the committee would examine the setbacks suffered by the national teams and make recommendations aimed at preventing a repeat of such failures.

Ambassador Fanny Amun, MON, will chair the committee, while former Nigeria internationals Ladan Bosso, Desire Oparanozie and Mutiu Adepoju, alongside Dr Alex Mana, will serve as members.

Mr Nasiru Jibril has been appointed secretary of the committee.

The NFF said the committee’s findings and recommendations will help guide measures to improve Nigeria’s performance in future international competitions.
