Nigerian Army 2027 Recruitment: Step-by-step guide to applying for Short Service Commission
The Nigerian Army has opened applications for the Short Service Combatant Commission (SSCC) Course 50/2027, inviting qualified civilians and serving military personnel to apply for commission as Short Service Combatant Commission officers.
Successful candidates will serve in the Combat Arms, including the Infantry and Armour Corps, as well as Combat Support Arms, including Artillery, Engineers, Signals and Intelligence Corps.

GENERAL ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must:
- Be Nigerian citizens by birth.
- Be between 23 and 27 years old as of 10 January 2027.
- Be medically, mentally and physically fit according to Nigerian Army standards.
- Have no criminal conviction by any court of law.
- Not belong to any cult or secret society.
- Not have body inscriptions or tattoos.

ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must possess:
- At least a First Degree with a minimum of Second Class Lower Division, or
- HND with a minimum of Lower Credit.
Qualifications must be in the Arts, Sciences or Humanities from an accredited university or other recognised institution of higher learning.
Important
The Nigerian Army stated that only tertiary academic credentials obtained from 2018 to date will be considered.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS FOR CIVILIANS
Civilian applicants must possess:
- NYSC Discharge Certificate.
- Letter of attestation from their degree-awarding institution.
- Recommendation from at least two recognised referees who meet the stipulated requirements.
REQUIREMENTS FOR SERVING MILITARY PERSONNEL
Serving soldiers, ratings and airmen are also eligible to apply if they meet the stipulated requirements.
Serving military applicants are required to present an NYSC Exemption Certificate.

Application Steps

- Select the SSCC option.

- Indicate whether you are currently serving or have previously served in the Armed Forces.
- Register using a valid email address.
- Check your email for the verification link.
- Create a password and log in.
- Complete the application form.
- Upload all required documents.
- Review your information carefully and submit the application.

Deadline: All applications must be submitted no later than Saturday, 17 October 2026.
SSCC COMMISSION PERIOD
Successful SSCC officers will receive a 15-year commission, with 10 years on the active list serving as the initial bonding period.
The commission may subsequently be renewed for a period of not more than five years.
SSCC officers may also have the opportunity to convert to a Regular Combatant Commission.
However, the Army stressed that conversion is not automatic and will depend on available vacancies and other applicable criteria.

Candidates are advised to rely only on information released through official Nigerian Army channels and avoid paying anyone claiming to have the ability to influence recruitment or guarantee selection.
