Nigerians seek explanation as physiotherapist dies naked in Dave Umahi’s residence
Questions continue to trail the mysterious death of physiotherapist Mary Habila at the residence of Nigeria’s Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, with the incident generating widespread public attention and calls for a thorough investigation.
Habila, who was said to be Umahi’s personal physiotherapist, reportedly died under unclear circumstances, prompting demands for transparency over the events surrounding her death.
In a statement issued on Saturday by the minister’s Senior Special Assistant on Media, Francis Nweze, Umahi confirmed the incident and disclosed that Habila and another physiotherapist, Anita Baski, were employees of the David Umahi Federal University of Health Sciences, Uburu, Ebonyi State, who had been on secondment to the Federal Ministry of Works for the past three years.
According to the statement, the minister advised the deceased’s family to approve an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death after personally receiving her parents and offering his condolences.
The statement, however, claimed that the family declined the request for an autopsy.
Meanwhile, unverified allegations circulating on social media have claimed that Habila was found unclothed when her body was discovered at the minister’s residence, further fueling public concern and speculation.
Several Nigerians have taken to X (formerly Twitter) to question the circumstances surrounding her death and call for a transparent investigation.
Journalist Fejiro Oliver argued that the minister should answer questions surrounding the incident, while other social media users also demanded an independent probe into the case.
However, none of the claims circulating on social media has been independently verified by authorities.
As of the time of filing this report, the Nigeria Police Force had not issued an official statement on the incident or disclosed the outcome of any investigation.
