NSCDC vehicle crushes female officer to death during show of force in Abuja (Video)
A female officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has died after being struck by an operational vehicle during a simulation exercise in Abuja.
The incident was confirmed on Saturday by the NSCDC spokesperson, Afolabi Babawale, who said the agency had commenced internal procedures following the tragedy.
The identity of the deceased officer had not been officially disclosed as of the time of filing this report.
Footage circulating on social media captured the moment the accident occurred during what appeared to be a coordinated show-of-force drill.
In the video, the officer was knocked down and run over by a patrol vehicle while it was making a turn during the exercise.
The vehicle eventually came to a halt as colleagues and bystanders rushed to the scene and lifted it in an attempt to rescue the officer. Emergency responders later arrived and evacuated her from the location.
Confirming the fatality, Babawale said senior officers of the corps were on their way to the residence of the deceased to condole with her family.
“It is true we lost a personnel during the simulation exercise. Our senior officers are on their way to the residence of the deceased to pay our condolences,” he said.
He added that a comprehensive statement would be issued to clarify the circumstances surrounding the incident and outline measures being taken by the agency.
