Oluwo says patriotic Nigerians may seek third term for Tinubu

The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, has said that many Nigerians may push for a constitutional amendment to allow President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to remain in office beyond the constitutionally permitted two terms.

The monarch made the remark in a congratulatory message issued through his spokesperson, Ibrahim Alli, to mark Tinubu’s 74th birthday, describing the President as a decisive leader who has laid a renewed foundation of hope for the country.

According to him, Tinubu has distinguished himself through a firm stance against illegalities that previously hindered economic growth, as well as bold policy decisions aimed at repositioning the nation’s economy.

Oluwo highlighted what he described as notable economic gains under the administration, including improvements in the value of the naira and a significant rise in Nigeria’s foreign reserves, which he said increased from about $1 billion to between $49.5 billion and $50.45 billion as of late February and March 2026.

He attributed these developments to key structural reforms such as exchange rate unification, increased oil production, and improved foreign investment inflows.

The traditional ruler also commended the President for implementing local government autonomy, boosting allocations to states, expanding road infrastructure, and improving the distribution of palliatives at the grassroots level.

He noted that while past administrations attempted similar reforms, they were often forced to abandon them due to public and political pressure. In contrast, he said Tinubu has demonstrated the resolve needed to implement difficult but necessary policies.

Oluwo further stated that the President’s policies are beginning to positively impact living standards, adding that the next phase of governance should focus on achieving economic stability.

He maintained that strong leadership is defined by the ability to take and sustain tough decisions, insisting that Tinubu’s reform agenda reflects a commitment to long-term national development.
