OsunDecides2026: Adeleke leads Oyebamiji by 66,244 votes as collation nears end

The Accord Party is on course to win the 2026 Osun State governorship election, with incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke maintaining a commanding lead over All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Bola Oyebamiji.

Very Nigerian’s collation of results uploaded from the field on INEC Form EC8A showed that Adeleke had secured 491,975 votes, representing 51.9 per cent, while Oyebamiji had polled 425,731 votes, representing 44.9 per cent.

The figures put Adeleke ahead by 66,244 votes, with results from 3,633 of the state’s 3,763 polling units across the 30 local government areas already collated.

African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate Najeem Salaam was a distant third with 16,513 votes, representing 1.7 per cent.

The remaining parties shared about 14,500 votes among themselves, while 948,768 valid votes had been counted as of the latest update.

Adeleke maintained a consistent lead across the state, recording strong performances in several local government areas, including Ife, Ede, Osogbo and Iwo.

With about 130 polling units outstanding, the current margin gives Adeleke a substantial advantage, although the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is yet to formally declare a winner.

Adeleke is seeking a second term in the Bola Ige Government House, having won the 2022 governorship election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) before defecting to the Accord Party.

If declared winner, the result would mark the first governorship election victory for the Accord Party in Osun State.

Fifteen political parties were listed on the ballot for Saturday’s election, although two candidates—Adesina Adeyemi-Doro of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and Simon Adewale of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM)—had announced their withdrawal from the race.

The State Collation and Returning Officer is expected to formally announce the final result after the completion of the collation process.

Under Nigeria’s electoral law, a governorship candidate must secure the highest number of votes cast and satisfy the required geographical spread to be declared elected.
