Panic as multiple explosion hits Maiduguri
Explosions were reported on Monday evening in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, causing panic in several parts of the city.
Sources said the blasts occurred between about 6:45 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., with loud explosions heard around the Monday Market, Kaleri, Post Office and University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital areas.
Residents said the sounds sparked fear across the neighbourhoods, forcing many people to hurriedly leave the affected areas and rush home for safety.
Witnesses described the explosions as very loud, raising concerns among residents who feared a possible security incident.
The incident comes less than 24 hours after suspected insurgents reportedly infiltrated the Kofa community on the outskirts of Maiduguri but were repelled by security forces.
Further details are expected as authorities assess the situation.
