PDP Crisis: Turaki, Wike camps move toward peace deal

Efforts to resolve the lingering crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are gathering momentum, with Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed and former Senate President Bukola Saraki expected to lead separate reconciliation teams from the opposing factions.

Sources indicate that informal communications have already commenced between the camps, with a full reconciliation process scheduled to begin after the Sallah festivities.

The PDP has remained divided since the controversial National Convention held in Ibadan in November, where Tanimu Turaki (SAN) and members of the National Working Committee were elected with the backing of PDP governors led by Bala Mohammed and Seyi Makinde. The convention also led to the leadership transition from former National Chairman Umar Damagum to Turaki before the expiration of Damagum’s tenure in December 2025.

However, the situation escalated after the convention expelled FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and his allies, prompting them to form a parallel National Caretaker Committee led by Abdulrahman Mohammed.

Following a Court of Appeal ruling that nullified the Ibadan convention, both factions have now agreed to pursue reconciliation under the supervision of the party’s Board of Trustees, led by former Senate President Adolphus Wabara.

A source disclosed that a seven-member committee set up by the Turaki faction, led by Governor Bala Mohammed, has begun outlining its demands ahead of talks with the opposing group.

The Wike faction is also expected to present its position through a committee led by Bukola Saraki.

Both sides are expected to meet after Sallah to harmonise their positions, with any agreement reached to be submitted to the Appeal Court in Ibadan for ratification and to serve as a binding resolution for all party members.
