Plateau Governor Caleb Mutfwang officially dumps PDP
Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), bringing an end to months of intense political speculation over his future within the opposition party.
The governor’s resignation was conveyed in a letter dated December 29, 2025, addressed to the PDP Chairman of Ampang West Ward, Dasjak Sunday Longyol, and obtained by our correspondent in Jos, the Plateau State capital, on Thursday.
In the letter, Mutfwang cited the need to explore an alternative political platform that would enable him to better deliver on governance and leadership responsibilities to the people of Plateau State.
While expressing appreciation to the PDP for providing him the opportunity to participate in Nigeria’s democratic process, the governor said his decision was guided by his commitment to purposeful leadership, clarity of direction, and effective service delivery.
“I write to formally notify you of my resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party with immediate effect,” the letter read.
“I sincerely appreciate the PDP for providing me the political platform to participate in the democratic process.
“I appreciate the support of party leaders, members, and supporters at all levels during my time in the party, and I remain grateful for the trust reposed in me.
“Given the realities of the moment, and guided by my commitment to purposeful leadership, clarity of direction, and service delivery, I am compelled to seek an alternative political platform.
“Please accept the assurances of my highest regards.”
The letter, personally signed by Governor Mutfwang, did not state the political party he has joined, leaving his next move officially undisclosed.
However, the resignation comes against the backdrop of months of speculation that the governor was preparing to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Multiple party sources have since confirmed that the National Working Committee of the APC has welcomed Mutfwang into its fold, with senior party officials pledging support for what they described as his “new political journey.”
The development marks a significant political shift in Plateau State and is expected to reshape the state’s political landscape ahead of future electoral contests.
