Police foils kidnap attempt in Nasarawa, rescues two victims
The Nasarawa State Police Command has rescued two kidnap victims in separate operations and arrested a suspected kidnapper, as part of ongoing efforts to tackle kidnapping and related crimes in the state.
One of the victims, identified as David O., a resident of the Tudun Amba area of Lafia, was abducted after boarding a commercial motorcycle from Lafia to Assakio.
Police sources said that upon reaching Kireyi Village, the motorcyclist allegedly diverted onto a bush path and forcefully took David into a forest.
The police have not yet disclosed details of the second victim or the arrested suspect, but said investigations are ongoing.
In a press statement signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, the police said the victim was rescued on February 3, 2026, at about 4:30 p.m., when operatives of the Anti-Robbery Squad were on routine patrol.
In a related development, operatives attached to the Gitata Division arrested one Jamilu Salisu of Ditsenma, Katsina State, over the abduction of a 14-year-old Junior Secondary School 2 student of UBE Gitata.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect abducted the victim beside a mosque in Gitata and took him into the forest,” the statement said.
The police explained that the operation was triggered by information from a good Samaritan who sighted the suspect while taking the victim toward a riverbank.
“Upon receiving the information, operatives swiftly mobilised to the area, arrested the suspect and rescued the victim. One accomplice escaped and is currently at large,” the statement added.
The Commissioner of Police, Shetima Jauro Mohammed, has ordered an intensive manhunt for the fleeing suspect and directed a thorough investigation into both cases.
The police command assured residents of their safety, thanked members of the public for providing timely and useful information, and urged continued cooperation with security agencies to rid the state of criminal elements.
