Rivers Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu dumps PDP, registers with APC
Deputy Governor of Rivers State, Ngozi Odu, has formally defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Odu completed her registration into the ruling party at her ward in Akabuka town, Ward 8, Unit 11, Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of the state.
Shortly after registering, the deputy governor was seen singing “On Your Mandate We Shall Stand,” a campaign song closely associated with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, further affirming her alignment with the ruling party.
Her defection comes weeks after Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, also dumped the PDP for the APC following a closed-door meeting with President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Following his defection, Governor Fubara was officially registered as an APC member by the party’s Rivers State Chairman, Tony Okocha, who said the exercise was carried out based on directives from the party’s national secretariat.
Meanwhile, the National Chairman of the APC, Nentawe Yilwatda, has since declared Governor Fubara as the leader of the party in Rivers State, consolidating the APC’s growing influence in the oil-rich state.
Odu’s defection further signals the ongoing realignment of political forces in Rivers State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
