Hon. Rufus Bature has been re-elected as the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Plateau State after a successful State Congress held on Tuesday in Jos.

The congress saw a large turnout of party members and proceeded smoothly under a consensus arrangement, removing the need for a contested vote.

Hon. Oscar Yelwa, Chairman of the State Congress Committee, praised the delegates for embracing consensus and upholding democratic principles in choosing the new executive council.

The event was graced by high-profile attendees, including Governor Caleb Mutfwang, Deputy Governor Josephine Piyo, members of the National Assembly, the Speaker and members of the Plateau State House of Assembly, party elders, stakeholders, local government chairmen, accredited delegates, and observers from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

In his acceptance speech, Hon. Bature, a former Secretary to the State Government who served during the administration of Simon Lalong, described his re-emergence as a profound responsibility.

He pledged to reposition the party for greater effectiveness, emphasising unity and performance ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“Failure is not an option,” Bature declared, assuring members that the new executive would uphold the core ideals of the APC while working to meet the expectations of Plateau people.

Governor Mutfwang, who spoke at the occasion, hailed the congress as historic, declaring an end to opposition politics in the state.

“No more opposition on the Plateau; we can only go into the 2027 election as one Plateau People’s Party driven by APC,” he stated.

The governor called for aggressive grassroots mobilisation, urging every registered APC member to recruit at least 10 new members to bolster the party’s strength.
