Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has unveiled Nigeria’s final 28-man squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), scheduled to kick off on December 21 in Morocco.

The squad features a mix of experienced stars and exciting new talents, following the culling of several players from the initial 54-man provisional list.

The most notable surprise is the omission of goalkeeper Maduka Okoye, despite his return to form for Udinese after a suspension for a match-fixing scandal.

In his place, Stanley Nwabali retains a spot despite currently battling ankle and hand injuries, Very Nigerian reports.

Other high-profile absentees include Victor Boniface, Tolu Arokodare, and Kelechi Iheanacho, while Paul Onuachu returns to the squad after a long absence.

First-time call-up Ebenezer Akinsanmiro joins seasoned players including Victor Osimhen, Samuel Chukwueze, Alex Iwobi, Moses Simon, Wilfred Ndidi, and Calvin Bassey.

The Super Eagles are preparing for a practice match against Egypt on December 16 before the tournament begins.

Nigeria is drawn in Group C alongside Tanzania, Tunisia, and Uganda. Their opening group game against Tanzania is scheduled for December 23, followed by matches against Tunisia on December 27 and Uganda on December 30.
